ABOUT (cont'd)
With numerous State Parks within 20 minutes of each other; cool and clear flowing rivers for kayaking and floating; great camping sites; comfortable and clean hotels and bed & breakfasts; great dining, entertainment and shopping and well kept and marked hiking trails, Arcadia Valley offers something for everyone in your family.
And don't forget our historical past. A famous Civil War battlefield in Pilot Knob is visited by tens of thousands of people each year. A Civil War Re-Enactment is held there every three years.
The Iron County Courthouse, opened in 1861, still shows the damage from a cannon ball in the upper level of the front facade that was fired during the Battle of Pilot Knob.
Immanuel Lutheran Church, which holds one of the oldest pipe organs west of the Mississippi, was used as a hospital during the Civil War and is rumored to be haunted.
A statue honoring General Ulysses S. Grant's promotion to Brigadier General is located in downtown Ironton, commemorating the fact that he was in Arcadia Valley when he was notified of his promotion.
